How it works

Sentences of 30 words or more, or with four or more stacked clauses, are flagged as hard to follow.

Passive voice ("the test was conducted") and noun-heavy phrases ("make a decision" instead of "decide") are highlighted with a suggestion.

The grade level is the Flesch-Kincaid estimate of the school year needed to read the text comfortably.

Questions

Is passive voice wrong?

Not always. It is useful when the actor is unknown or unimportant, common in methods sections. Overusing it makes writing vague.

What grade level should I aim for?

For general readers, around 8 to 10. Academic writing is often 12 to 16, but clearer is still better.

Does this use AI?

No. It is a pattern-based check that runs in your browser.
